So I went to the chiropractor this morning with my mom [she's been going]. My neck and back have been aching, plus my mom said it would be good to see how it is.
Our chiropractor was very nice and the way he used his hands were gentle but firm. He was surprised I had never been reajusted before. It was strange the way he could make my body do things, but now I feel great!!
Here's what I learned from my visit today:
1.) Don't slouch. Yes I know we have all heard this one before. Just think about your posture when you sit, sit, eat, watch tv, walk. Face it, we do not want to end up one of those old hunchback grandparents. It takes a conscience effort to keep your back straight and shoulders back. Be confident in yourself and your body!
2.) Avoid watching tv and reading in bed. (big problem for me) Think about the way you position your neck. It isn't a healthy habit.
3.) You should not carry a bag on one shoulder if it weighs over 10% of your body weight. So with most high school and college students, carry your backpack with both straps on your shoulders.
4.) When you bend down to pick things up, use you knees to help support yourself.
5.) {This usually applies more often to men} Avoid sitting on your wallet when it is in your back pocket. It causes the sides of your body to be uneven/ not aligned.
6.) *Most interesting Fact* Cracking your back, neck, fingers, toes (knuckles) is like taking drugs! When you crack your body, you are releasing endophins/ like giving yourself medicine to feel good. Think about someone you know with this problem, it's addicting to them, right? Hard for them to stop the bad habit?
-If you are going to crack your back or neck to relieve pain, do so slowly, as to bring the least amount of damage to your body.
